The Global Health Policy Center will leverage the expertise and access of CSIS’s regional programs.
The Center will continue to work with the CSIS Africa Program which previously housed the CSIS Task Force on HIV/AIDS. The program will expand upon existing linkages with emerging independent Africa policy experts and partner with organizations in the region addressing key health and development challenges. Jennifer G. Cooke leads the Africa Program’s work with the Center.
The CSIS Freeman Chair in China Studies, an integral partner of the Task Force on HIV/AIDS, is continuing to identify major trends in infectious and non-communicable diseases, key areas for health reform in China as well as China’s emerging role as a donor in the global health community.
Led by Andrew C. Kuchins, the CSIS Russia/Eurasia Program is continuing to look at Russia’s ongoing health challenges, including HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, areas for health reform, and opportunities for cooperation between the U.S. and Russia on global health.
Having worked extensively with the Task Force on HIV/AIDS, the CSIS South Asia Program is adding new focus on emerging health threats in India and the broader region as well as trends in infectious and chronic diseases. The project is directed by Teresita C. Schaeffer.
The CSIS Americas Program is developing an initiative that will provide an updated analysis of major public health challenges in the region, identify emerging leadership from the Americas, and capture areas for increased cooperation with the U.S. The program is managed by Peter De Shazo and Katherine Bliss.
Led by Jon B. Alterman, the Middle East Program is analyzing the complex and diverse set of health challenges in the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on the role of health diplomacy in the region.
The Global Health Policy Center will partner with the CSIS Europe Program to launch a major new outreach initiative to European public health experts and policymakers. In partnership with other foreign policy organizations throughout Europe, the CSIS Center will aim to: Lift the profile of the evolving global health agenda among European political and foreign policy leaders & Encourage higher European leadership and donor commitments to global health initiatives
