The Crisis in Côte d'Ivoire

The CSIS Africa program has assembled these resources to provide insight into the political crisis in Côte d'Ivoire and its aftermath.
Côte d’Ivoire endured a protracted crisis when Laurent Gbagbo refused to leave office following his defeat to Alassane Ouattara in the presidential runoff election in November, 2010. The political standoff ended on April 10 when military forces loyal to President Ouattara arrested Gbagbo, but the country will continue to face immense challenges, including reviving its economy; mending regional and ethnic rivalries; reforming the security sector; and consolidating a new democratic leadership.
Throughout the crisis, the CSIS Africa Program provided commentary and a range of resources, including short written analysis and multimedia recordings of events, including a teleconference with president elect Alassane Ouattara. Check back often for updated content as we continue to follow Côte d'Ivoire’s journey to recovery.
