South Asia Monitor: India-Japan Relations: A Partnership for Peace and Prosperity
The South Asia program at CSIS, led by Ambassador Teresita Schaffer, undertakes projects focusing on geopolitics, strategic affairs, and public health related to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Afghanistan. In the last decade, this region has become increasingly prominent in U.S. foreign policy in Asia. The South Asia program aims to provide a forum for informed deliberation on the increasingly dynamic relationship between the United States and South Asia, particularly Pakistan and India, with an objective to identify short-term agenda items with long-term impact for government and business.
In addition to a monthly newsletter, The South Asia Monitor, the program regularly holds conferences, seminars, and briefings on a variety of pertinent regional issues. The South Asia Program also hosts the Policy Council on India, a membership based group that is comprised of carefully selected leaders from business and policy circles. The Council meets twice a year to consider recent developments in India and their policy implications for U.S.-India relations.
In 2009, the South Asia program will focus its activities on issues that affect the region's ties with the United States over the next two decades.
