The Initiative on Strategic Planning compares how different kinds of organizations—government, private sector, nongovernmental, and academic—think and act about their respective futures.

The GSI’s “Initiative on Strategic Planning” focuses on how different kinds of organizations—government, private-sector, non-governmental organization and academic—think and act about their respective futures. It seeks to compare the underlying goals, methodologies, and strategies about addressing the more distant horizon.

Specifically, the Initiative will collect and analyze strategies, compare scenarios developed by organizations ranging from the Shell Strategic Research Office to the World Bank to the National Intelligence Council, contrast the processes employed to pre-position organizations for the long view, and promote interaction between “top guns” in planning and analysis across organizational segments.

The goal is to reach a sharper understanding of what is being done and what approaches are yielding the best results. In addition, the Initiative seeks to promote and foster a “community” of longer-range thinkers.
