U.S.-Korea Policy Scholars Program
The U.S.-Korea Policy Scholars Program is an initiative by the CSIS Korea Chair to deepen mutual understanding and promote policy studies in support of the U.S.-Korea alliance.
The U.S.-Korea Policy Scholars Program is a new initiative by the CSIS Korea Chair to deepen mutual understanding and promote policy studies in support of the U.S.-Korea alliance. The program invites young and mid-career private and public sector professionals with research interests on any aspect of U.S.-Korea policy to join CSIS for a fixed period of study in Washington, D.C. as a non-resident visiting fellow.
Policy Scholars will have a specific research project, which they will present in written and/or presentation format at the end of their stay. They will have access to the CSIS library, all of CSIS public events, including those events sponsored by the Korea Chair. The Office of the Korea Chair will encourage Policy Scholars to make the most of the rich research institutions and university activities in the Washington, D.C. area, and will help to facilitate contacts with the Korea expert policy players in the area.
Policy Scholars will participate in 6 to 10-unit curriculum constituted of meetings run by the Korea Chair on a variety of topics related to U.S.-Korea relations. World class experts from CSIS, the U.S. government, as well as external guest speakers will be brought in to conduct sessions of interest to the research agenda of the Policy Scholars.
This program especially seeks out young and mid-career private and public sector professionals who will, through their studies and experiences at CSIS, help to build the future foundation of experts and empirical knowledge critical to the future foundation of the alliance. Such young and mid-career professionals should ideally be sponsored by their home institutions for a “sabbatical” period of study in the United States.
Learning Outcomes for Policy Scholars who complete the program:
1) One research paper and/or presentation that will be disseminated under the auspices of the Korea Chair’s “Voices” publications series
2) Completion of a 6 to 10 unit program curriculum (depending on duration of stay) constituted of substantive learning sessions/classes with experts courtesy of the Office of the Korea Chair
3) Acquisition of a unique and personal network of Korea policy experts and players in the Washington DC area
4) Evaluation of performance letter from the Korea Chair
