Freeman Report May 2005 - Vol. 3, No. 5

  • May 27, 2005

2005 is an important year for the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait as it marks the 10th anniversaries of Jiang Zemin’s eight-point proposal on cross-Strait relations, the historical visit of former Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui to the United States, and the Taiwan Strait missile crisis. During the past ten years, despite warming economic exchanges, almost no formal and meaningful dialogue had taken place between Beijing and Taipei, hence the Taiwan Strait continues to experience diplomatic confrontations and military tensions. Huang takes a look at the events, leaders, and the current situation in Cross-Strait relations.
