NATO and Allied Civil Military Co-operation Doctrine, Operations, & Organization of Forces

  • Jan 28, 2009

NATO and its allies use NATO doctrine and planning guidance as well as the unique conditions of each mission in civil-military operations. No two nations in the NATO Alliance conduct, train for, or organize their civil affairs (CA) or civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) equivalent forces in the same manner. CA or CIMIC training is a core competency interwoven in the training of the general-purpose forces. Soldiers on most operations conduct some CIMIC business in their day-to-day operations. If the nations have dedicated CA or CIMIC forces, they employ them as advisors to the commander and they reside within the staff. Civil-military cooperation is part of the national level discourse in NATO member countries.
