The level of violence in the North Caucasus has spiked in recent months, with July by far the most deadly month in years.
Since January 2004, CSIS has tracked, almost daily, violent incidents occurring in the North Caucasus. This interim report, assembled by our staff, draws on our database. In particular, the report illustrates trends in violence during 2009 and provides comparison to 2008.
This report includes data up through July 31, 2009. A comprehensive version of this report, complete with updated data, will be released August 27th.
