Louis Lauter

Louis Lauter is the director of congressional affairs at CSIS. He is responsible for directing the Center’s outreach to members of Congress and congressional staff. Prior to joining CSIS, he served as the senior legislative assistant to Congressman Rick Larsen (D-WA). In that capacity, he managed the congressman’s defense and House Armed Services Committee portfolio, in addition to foreign policy, energy, homeland security, and environment issues. He was also the original co-staff director of the bipartisan Congressional U.S.-China Working Group, cochaired by Congressman Larsen and Congressman Mark Kirk (R-IL). Prior to his work for Larsen, Lauter worked for Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and before that was student director of the Gore-Lieberman 2000 campaign in Washington state. Lauter hails from the San Francisco Bay area and is a graduate of the University of Washington (2001).
