Membership Groups

Henry Kissinger and Hu Jintao
CSIS offers opportunities for individuals to participate in the work of the Center through various membership options. (Pictured at left former secretary of state, CSIS trustee, and counselor Henry Kissinger speaks with China's president Hu Jintao at a CSIS event.)

The Center has three main types of membership groups: the International Councillors, the Advisory Board, and the Roundtables. Each group is unique in its composition and offers an exciting and valuable opportunity for individuals to become involved and contribute to the Center’s mission of providing bipartisan strategic insights and solutions to decisionmakers.

Each group meets regularly to discuss issues that reflect the comprehensive research and analysis conducted at CSIS. Members also actively participate in the substantive work of the Center, whether through involvement in ongoing studies and review of programs or by offering new ideas for future study.

Henry KissingerThe International Councillors, chaired by Henry Kissinger, is the Center’s most prestigious membership group. This small and exclusive group is composed of accomplished business leaders selected from every corner of the world. The Councillors meet annually for an informal off-the-record dialogue regarding the most current and pressing issues of global interest and concern.

The Advisory Board, cochaired by Zbigniew Brzezinski and Carla Hills, is composed of the Center’s closest friends and advisers, including both public and private sector policymakers, U.S. and international business leaders, and former senior government officials. The Advisory Board meets twice a year in Washington to discuss breaking policy issues.

The Roundtables are strategically based throughout the country and provide members with political insights from Washington. These groups, which meet two to three times a year, are currently located in Washington, D.C.; Dallas, Texas; and Houston, Texas. The International Policy Roundtable, which takes place in Washington, is the Center’s newest membership group and is chaired by former senator and U.S. trade representative William Brock.

Although these three main groups are highlighted, we welcome contributions at all levels. For more information, please contact:
