The UK Atomic Weapons Establishment hosted the 2008 Fall PONI Conference on October 9-10. Nearly 100 registered participants from the U.S. and UK convened for two days of panel sessions dealing with a variety of nuclear topics, including the emerging field of nuclear forensics, the respective nuclear strategies and postures of the U.S. and UK, laboratory missions and capabilities, nuclear deterrence in the new security landscape, and preventing proliferation. Attendees also received a tour of the Atomic Weapons Establishment and a historical talk on the UK nuclear weapons program. PONI would like to thank AWE for hosting the event; AWE Managing Director, Don Cook, who delivered welcoming remarks; AWE Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Richard Clegg, who addressed attendees over lunch; and Sir Peter Knight of the AWE Science, Technology and Advisory Committee for delivering the keynote address over dinner.

The highly successful event was subsequently featured in an article in Discovery, the science and technology journal of AWE. Read the full Discovery article.
