2013 has already witnessed several historic events throughout Latin America. From the death of Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez to the election of the first pope from the Americas, former Archbishop of Buenos Aires Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the region has garnered its share of the spotlight in recent months. And the year promises to bring many more newsworthy events as well, with Michelle Bachelet running in Chile's November 2013 presidential election and the government of Enrique Peña Nieto likely to introduce an overhaul of Mexico's state-owned oil company, PEMEX. What other issues are sure to dominate the headlines this year? And how do individuals throughout Latin America and Spain see the region compared to the United States? To discuss these issues and more, the CSIS Americas Program is pleased to welcome five distinguished journalists from some of the leading Latin American and Spanish newspapers.
