In 2000, all 189 UN member states agreed to create a partnership for global development by committing to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. The eight MDGs span the sectors of health, education, gender equality, and environmental sustainability. Significant progress has been made on a number of goals, while others remain unattainable before 2015. It is clear that the goals succeeded in mobilizing support for global development, but the chosen indicators may have overlooked key factors that lead to broad-based economic growth, particularly improving governance and involvement of the private sector. Over the next year, the UN will negotiate the goals that will replace the MDGs and guide the international community's future development efforts.

Please join us for a panel discussion on the role of business and the private sector in shaping and achieving the post-2015 global development agenda. Panelists will discuss the need for the next round of goals to focus on improving the business environment and enabling conditions for economic growth, particularly by incorporating the leadership of the private sector to create jobs and foster economic stability.
