The Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR) was first released in December 2010 with the purpose of adapting long-term U.S. foreign policy to the changing diplomatic landscape. Entitled "Leading through Civilian Power," the 2010 QDDR sought to advance smart power by aligning strategic planning between the State Department and USAID in a way that strenghtened U.S. diplomacy and international civilian capacity. The QDDR is viewed as a worthy exercise that, if effectively implemented, could lead to positive outcomes in a range of U.S. foreign policy priorities including democracy promotion, economic growth, and food security.
As the 2014 QDDR looms near, join us for a conversation with CSIS experts as they discuss lessons learned from the inaugural QDDR and explore issues for consideration moving forward.
