Report Launch: "From Strength to Empowerment: The Future of U.S.-Malaysia Relations"

The CSIS Southeast Asia Program will launch its new report on the current status and future trajectory of U.S.-Malaysia relations, to be held in the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2200, 45 Independence Ave., SW, on June 21, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Representative Don Manzullo, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, will make introductory remarks at the report launch. Joseph Yun, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and His Excellency Othman Hashim, Malaysia’s Ambassador to the United States will speak and take questions from the audience.

The Southeast Asia Program at CSIS launched the study called “From Strength to Empowerment: The Next Generation of U.S.-Malaysia Relations” in cooperation with ISIS Malaysia in May 2011. The report's preliminary recommendations were formally presented to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak in Kuala Lumpur on November 10, 2011, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Hawaii and the East Asia Summit in Bali.
